The Seasider athletic tradition continues at LCPCS! Our Seasiders compete in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF). Our goal is to develop student athletes who are successful in life, school and on the court. Every Seasider is known, valued and loved. Interested Seasider student athletes, coaches, or volunteers, please contact the athletic coordinator.

An athletic physical is required to be on file for every student athlete. Students need to maintain a 2.0 GPA and attend daily academic enrichment sessions.

What does REACH stand for?

What is REACH?

An initiative of the Office of Lieutenant Governor working in collaboration with the Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE), REACH supports out-of-school (before, afterschool, weekends, intersessions and summer, if applicable) activities for midddle and intermediate school students to keep on track toward high school graduation. Using a community-based approach, the initiative encourages partnerships with schools, parents, and the private sectors, outside of regular instructional hours, to provide engaging activities focused on academic enrichment, athletics, culture and health.

The Goal

This initiative seeks to help reverse the high school dropout crisis by stopping disconnection where it takes hold – in the middle and intermediate school years. It provides participating students in the Hawaii Department of Education public middle and intermediate schools, the opportunity to participate in out-of-school time activities and improve outcomes in attendance, behavior, course work, and grades.

The Mission

To support public middle and intermediate school students by providing opportunities in the out-of-school hours to engage in student-interest activities in the areas of academic enrichment, athletics, culture and health to stay on track toward high school graduation.

2021-2022 REACH

REACH is one of Hawaiʻi’s Out-of-School Time Programs administered under the leadership of the DOE Community Engagement Branch (CEB). CEB is looking for qualified applicants to provide out-of-school-time activities and services in safe, structured learning environments that address the unique needs of students in their school community while also striving to support Hawaiʻi’s Out-of-School Time Program Objectives.

Hawaiʻi’s Out-of-School Time Program Objectives

The CEB aims to support programs that address the following objectives (from HCR 137, 2016):

Provides regular opportunities for students to focus on academics (e.g., an hour of tutoring, time for homework) alongside other enrichment activities;

May incorporate intramural athletics as an option, focusing on participation, inclusiveness, and team building;

Implements a method of collecting student feedback so activities offered are driven by student interest and incorporate student needs;

Integrate school, complex (area), state priorities and goals, and develop active participation from school leadership (e.g., for students to participate in sports they must attend school and maintain 2.0 GPA);

Systematically encourages strong parent, family, community engagement with school stakeholders & students; and

Follows the Hawaiʻi Afterschool Alliance Quality Guidelines for Out-of-School Time programming (http://www.hawaiiafterschoolalliance.org/quality-afterschool-guidelines.html).
