Message from Aunty Katy:
My name is Catherine Metzler Nagata, Pre-K teacher, my students call me “Aunty Katy”. I was born/raised in Ka'auhuhu, Kohala and graduated from Kohala High School and Colorado State University. My mother is a teacher from the McCorriston Family from O'ahu and Moloka'i. My Dad is originally from New Mexico and lives in Kohala. I worked for nearly 10 years in the field as a Hawaiʻi State Wildlife Biologist, teaching K-12 students, before teaching in the classroom. I have been teaching here at Laupāhoehoe since the 2017-2018 school year, starting in 3rd, 4th, 5th grade as an Intervention Specialist and moving to Pre-K in 2018. My philosophy is to teach foundational skills, Aloha, Mālama, ʻĀina. We learn through play in our Pre-K ʻohana and we enjoy many outdoor activities, such as our Pre-K butterfly garden. Check out our Pre-K website below for pictures of our classroom and playground.
