Wā Piko, also known as Piko, is a culturally-based practice at LCPCS that promotes mindfulness and social-emotional learning. It's a gathering at the start of the instructional day where students, faculty, and staff come together as a community.
Key Aspects of Wā Piko:
- Mindfulness and Social-Emotional Learning: Wā Piko focuses on developing these skills in students, which are essential for well-being and academic success.
- Community Building: It serves as a time for the school community to gather and strengthen their connection through shared experiences.
- Cultural Connection: Wā Piko often incorporates Hawaiian songs and values to reinforce cultural heritage and pride.
- Setting Intentions: It provides an opportunity to reflect and set intentions for the day or week ahead.
- Wā Panina: Some schools also have a similar gathering at the end of the week, called Wā Panina, to celebrate accomplishments and announcements.
