Romeo GarciaRomeo Garcia — LCPCS Director

Mr. Garcia is an longtime educator who comes to LCPCS with experience at both the college and secondary levels, and highly recommended by his former colleagues. His long career in education has included teaching, program management, counseling, and consulting, as well as founding and serving as co-principal of a charter high school in Oakland, California.  ARISE High School in Oakland was located in an economically challenged area with a high crime rate, but under his leadership his students flourished both socially and academically. Mr. Garcia has extensive experience with project-based learning. Most recently, he has been in the consulting business, in the field of (among other things) education program development. In that position, he served as a consultant to Connections Charter School in Hilo for a number of years.

Mr. Garcia has two children: a son, Gibran, aged 25, and a daughter, Kai, aged 27.

 
Dr. P. Mahealani YamashitaDr. P Māhealani Yamashita — Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

Dr. Yamashitaʻs experience in education spans over twenty years in public, private, and charter schools. Her expertise includes integrating project-based learning and Hawaiian culture into experiential, environmentally engaging education experiences. A Native Hawaiian, born and raised on Hawaiʻi Island, she is also proud to have served her country and is a military veteran. She holds a BA in Secondary Education: Language Arts; a MEd in Education Counseling; and a EdD in Education leadership, K-12. She presently resides in Waimea with her wife, Michelle, and their boys, four-year-old Mauna Kea, and one-year-old Makoa. In her free time she loves to go to the beach with her family, and play Hawaiian music.
